Salem Hospital is seeking a dynamic, team oriented, and quality focused Nurse Manager to assume responsibility of our Medical unit.

Medical Unit

The Medical unit is comprised of 35 patient beds dedicated to our medical population, with a growing focus on care of geriatric patients. Our geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist is instrumental in growing this focus, including the development of Geriatric Resource Nurses, attainment of NICHE designation and working toward adopting a model for the care of geriatric patients in the hospital. The Medical Unit team has daily Multidisciplinary Rounds, which address current clinical and social issues, and barriers to discharge.

The Medical Unit is also the training unit for new graduate nurses coming to Adult Health Services. , This unit is populated with well-trained preceptors and is designed to provide new nurses with a positive, nurturing learning environment that maximizes the achievement of learning and performance outcomes, uses proven teaching/learning strategies and capitalizes on the expertise of our clinicians. This unit provides an exceptional opportunity for leaders who highly value a learning environment.

The Nurse Manager reports directly the Director of Adult Health Services, and has 24/7 accountability for the planning and review of daily operations and activities within the Medical Unit, with specific responsibility on a day-to-day basis to manage patient flow and communicating effectively across the continuum.

General Responsibilities:

• Works collaboratively with leaders to achieve a seamless continuum of care and standardization of processes to enhance the patient experience.

• Focuses on patient safety and satisfaction, staff competency and education, performance improvement, budgeting, personnel management, and physician relations.

• Serves as a professional leader and a nurse manager representative on hospital-wide committees and initiatives support of the magnet journey.

• Assists the Adult Health Services Director on specific projects and other duties, including organizational strategies, system priorities and overall health care trends.

• Makes decisions based on alignment with organizational goals and strategies

• Ensures employees understand their role and responsibilities in achieving organizational success

• Involves staff in planning, decision-making and solving team conflicts

• Cultivates a work environment that encourages interdepartmental cooperation, problem-solving and service delivery

• Implements management policies and practices that support accountability and

• Takes responsibility to assure personal communication related to work is clear to all members of the team

• Utilizes tools, auditing processes, educational programs and decision making bodies to ensure a continuous state of regulatory and accreditation readiness.

• Establishes targets and processes to monitor programmatic growth, clinical quality and effective operations within the designated operating units

• With the assistance of assigned financial staff, reviews periodic financial statements and reports, and makes changes in resource allocation, spending, and other relevant business activity, to ensure the financial viability and budget compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires BSN or attainment of BSN within three (3) years of hire into position; Master's Degree preferred.

• AONE or AACN nursing administration certification required.

• Achievement of certification within area of specialty within one (1) year of hire or by completion of BSN degree, whichever is earlier, required.

• Minimum of three (3) years RN experience required.

• Minimum of one (1) year progressive management experience required.

• RN experience working with the geriatric population strongly preferred.

• Staff development experience, such as working with new graduate nurses, strongly preferred.
